I noticed the tags you left and I know you can't say too much in response to this but I wanted to elucidate some of my reasoning especially since at first glance Joshua seems VERY closed off. so, a few caveats before i start off — one, i actually haven't played many other pbta games (like for example i know Of thirsty sword lesbians + own a copy that i've poked around in but im not very familiar w it), so i honestly can't provide much in the way of comparing/contrasting it w other pbta stuff in the same vein, and my impressions of sapphicworld are pretty much just contained to the game as its own thing, not so much sapphicworld as a Type Of Game

and two, while i am a dev myself, i'm a huge novice! like, i'm proud of the stuff i put out and i love doing it, but i personally feel like my lack of experience is such that like, i don't think my opinions in this case are particularly informed by my own work as a dev or anything. all this to say im happy to answer this question, i think i just gotta tackle it from a different frame than what ur specifically asking!

BUT ANYWAY. i can still talk abt why im so excited abt sapphicworld in a way that has kind of outstripped other stuff in general, and for me it's about the world 100%. like i honestly spend close to no time thinking abt the fact that sw is even pbta to be honest. not that the mechanics + gameplay aren't important, bc they are thoughtfully crafted and well done and fun, and i'm saying that from the perspective of someone who playtested earlier versions that have now been reworked! it's just like, not what comes to mind first for me — what's exciting and fresh and irreplaceable abt the game in my mind is like. it is fully committed to immersing you in an extremely lush, strange, richly fleshed out world, one with a long history and folklore/mythology and a TON of really fun npcs who all have different subcultures and its own calendar with seasonal holidays and regional terrain with specific fleshed out dungeons/towns/etc to discover and even like, specific FOODS typical to each different region and and and and —

and maybe at first that seems kind of overwhelming, and tbh it is. when i first got into it and i was going thru the playtest document (which if im remembering right was like. ~300 pages shorter at the time than the current playtest doc) i DO remember anxiously thinking to myself "god this is a LOT and idk if i'll be able to retain enough of this to rp convincingly" etc etc. but like... it's just really compelling, and it does an incredible job of mixing humor and gravity and horniness in a perfect ratio that always comes across as intensely earnest and makes it equally easy to have a fun goofy time or a really emotional time, which i think is REALLY hard to do.

and while normally it's hard for me to get thru something that dense and long all i can really say is that i just straight up like it enough and was charmed by it enough to pick away at it until i grasped it and felt like i understood a bunch about the world, which also has a curve to it bc in structure and tone its very different from any of your... idk more Standard fantasy or sci fi worldbuilding, so it's not like u can immediately slot in ur expectations from other settings and just learn some new vocab words, it's a world that from my perspective also Functions differently than a lot of other fictional settings in a way that's a little hard to describe succinctly. (none of this is succinct to begin with but ykwim). it makes me want to gm my own campaign, really really bad, when usually i have always been absolutely Terrified of the idea of gming! idk man. it has a Flavor. it's full of Vapors. u get transported somewhere else reading it and playing it in a way i haven't experienced in a while and a lot of times after a playtest session i felt like my brain stayed behind in sapphicworld for a pretty long time.

i feel like i am sounding a little melodramatic and incoherent but like. genuinely sapphicworld is just a fictional world that i am really bone-deep charmed by and interested in and when i WAS reading thru the rulebook for those first days it did not take me long at all to find myself constantly thinking "i want to play in this world, i want to play in this world, i can't wait to play in this world," and i just think that's really special. and like — just as your curiosity abt comparing sw to tsl was not intended as a diss or a negative, what im abt to say is similarly neutral — im a person who sometimes finds it a little difficult to click with or feel excited abt a lot of the Queer Indie Stuff that i see get popular with other people, bc it just doesn't connect w my specific lesbian + trans experience; not that it feels inauthentic but that im like, oh, idk, i think these guys are just. not My Zone, ykwim. on the flip side so much of the humor and heart and transness and sex in sapphicworld is something that really resonates w me and just Clicks in a way that i have also found really special.

rounding myself off before i ramble for like five more paragraphs but just as one more morsel of something i like abt sapphicworld that is a little more concrete than me spinning around the room yelling "I JUST LIKE IT OKAY": one of the most fun parts of character creation is getting to mix and match your kind (sort of like ancestry/species, the form ur physical body takes) with a subculture. so u get things like a werewolf babe (cookie! babe being a subculture that focuses on being Like, Totally Hot), or a centaur knight, or a minotaur debaucher, or a vampire cowboy, or an organist (cthulu-y tentacle guy) scenester, or a skeleton wizard, etc etc etc etc — there are SO MANY to pick from that when i was trying to bait my friends into playing w me i couldn't find a convenient way to list them all so ppl could start thinking abt their characters. and every possible combination basically is interesting and amusing and fun and practically THROWS a great oc into your lap and i literally think i could amuse myself endlessly just Making Characters in sapphicworld and never actually playing w them.

[panting, disheveled] so tldr. i like it. uh. what sets sapphicworld apart from other ttrpgs to me is that i have fallen balls to the wall in love with the very soul of it to the point where i don't even really think about it in comparison to other games at all and it has just become an Experience to me and i suppose i cannot guarantee anyone else will fall into insane homosexual hysteria in the same way but here we are. HOPE THAT HELPS

I remember it very clearly because it was one of the first maps I watched; I was also new to the warriors fandom in general and the vision of shadows arc was the first arc I read. I was really obsessed with ur part in that map. as in, I would watch that part over and over. maybe it stood out to me because of the coloured lineart, or the part where darktail lip syncs “I fear it’s too late”. either way, I took a look at ur channel, and well, became even more obsessed. I don’t really know how to phrase this, but I feel like you have impacted me in a big way? changed the trajectory of my life, even. it was the warrior cats fandom that made me not homophobic (which I picked up from the ppl in church) and that reaaaallly cushioned the blow when I realised that I too, was in fact, one of the queers (tm), and I think u and the art u made was a big part of that process. the queer cats made me feel like there’s a place in this world that I wholly deserve too uk?. ALSO, it wasn't lando or oscar who lost a seat in f1, and it most definitely wasn't them who the team literally preferred to pay millions to get rid of and replace with a rookie, instead of letting him drive for the team one more season. if i were a staniel i would start worrying about the fact that christian horner has said he doesn't plan on giving daniel a seat and i would leave mclaren alone.

i mean. im not gonna get mad abt smth someone paraphrased with a good deal of bias, which is why im not taking 'talentless' literally (although winless is just a fact, dont mind me crying in the corner abt sochi). i think the position daniel fans are in is complicated, where he was very much regarded as one of the most talented drivers on the grid or, by many people, the most talented championship-less driver around 2017, scoring top 3s in the wdc etc. and also i think a lot of daniel's talent was... flashy? bc of the way the red bull cars worked at the time, he got to be 'king of the late breakers' and 'lick the stamp and send it' etc bc the red bull, for all its flaws and for being the slowest of the big 3, allowed for a very visually impressive overtaking style

so u have a driver lauded by the media / dts / etc as exciting and talented and deserving of more, and then with some vague but quite possibly real team tensions at red bull he's suddenly demoted (well, he runs away) to a midfielder. ...and then he steps into a freak of a car that doesn't get along with him at all, with a young teammate who isn't visibly struggling at all. so then daniel fans have 1. the deja vu of a team 'mistreating' their fav and also 2. the cognitive dissonance of knowing their driver is talented but not seeing the proof. you can imagine why they're freaking out the way they are. that said, i think the best thing they could possibly do rn is.... just not keep up with mclaren. theyre allowed to feel the schadenfreude if (knock on wood) the mcl60 isn't fast, but i just Do Not Get why u would torture urself by watching the reveal of a team ur driver has cut ties with and expecting to see ur driver?? im picturing daniel stans watching the reveal like that clip of adam sandler going 'i'm waiting for them to play gangnam style'

im ngl this expansion was a hell of a roller coaster when it came to whether i thought it wss good or bad. overall my impression of it is good but i wonder if i dont think of it as highly as so many players do

main thing is the plot was very predictable for the first like 2/3 of the msq. defeat the lightwardens of the four areas, absorb the light, restore the night sky. before that, interact w the locals and help them w their problems.

the only unpredictable things were at the very beginning when we were still tryna understand what the exarch revealed, not knowing how to handle the light becoming too much to bear, and what happens after kholusia (i kept thinking “its def not gna be that simple”)

while i liked the worldbuilding, the predictability was the main reason the plot wasnt v exciting for me. heavensward and stormblood did have a clear end objective, but the journey wasnt as predictable. we didnt know what the “subtasks” would be before achieving our final task.

and then it finally got better once we reached the tempest, bc then it was uncertain how we would ultimately triumph. plus we get some lore dumps which i always welcome

anyway this doesnt make shb any less of a great expansion. i was just a little disappointed, thats all 😅

and i say this now before actually finishing the game bc in my opinion, if i have to wait until the very end to be satisfied with the plot, that isnt the storytelling i personally enjoy. i care more abt the journey than the destination / last moments

but now onto the good parts! each area was very well designed in terms of their culture, lore, and current struggles. it was rly fun getting to meet w all kinds of ppl in norvrandt & honestly its hard to choose a favorite ;w; entering a new area was always so exciting bc of this

the dungeon and trial bosses are much more engaging and fun! i rly like the combat in this game and its been fun figuring out the mechanics of every fight. so much more involved than doing ur combos and dodging a very simple aoe every now and then LOL

ike i was actually gripping the controller & sitting at the edge of my seat during the final dungeon boss of amaurot

i also like the designs of the sin eaters and lightwardens. i think its cool to see what we previously perceived as good (light) turned into monstrous beings. probably not a new concept, but i still like it :D

love their roman empire (i think) aesthetics too

as i progressed thru the quest i was more involved in the idea that everyone is morally grey, even ourselves. we’re villains to some while heroes to others, and our enemies r the same. sometimes makes u stop and wonder what ur rly fighting for instead of blindly charging forward

so i think in terms of the broader message and having the origins of ascians and the worlds involved, shadowbringers is the strongest expansion so far. but in terms of storytelling & overall pace of the quests, i actually prefer hw and sb 😅

but im excited to finish it up!!

♤ Off white is used to often, you barely even see pure white these days. Let alone know which one is which

It really depends on what you're going for because pure white has many use cases as much as off white does. In more bold and graphical(also web) designs, pure white (being a harsh color like you said) tends to be used more due to its purpose of need to catch more attention  - again, its what your intentions are, as different colors and the deliberate composition of them are used to achieve different goals.

♤ Add white to anything, and it’ll immediately go tints lighter. It’s almost irreversible. Even if you try to balance it out with black, the colour won’t be the same as it was.

I definitely get what you're trying to say here, you can tell if something is tinted with white since it makes vivid colors more muted, it no longer looks like the colors are screaming at you.

From my experience, its easier to tell that something was added to white rather than vice versa, white in painting is a very translucent color compared to other paints as it takes many layers of it (or a thick lump) to be perceived as pure white compared to something like pure black/blue on a toned canvas.

Once something is added to white, it is VERY hard to go back to pure white again unless you dump a huge lump of white paint on it. (making white by mixing other colors together is impossible in CMYK, white is basically - nothing, this is why white ink catridges arent a thing in printers). Its easier to get a tinted blue to a pure blue rather than a tinted white to pure white since white is easily overpowered compared to others in color mixing lol (this applies to any colors light in value honestly, like yellow)

Just a note, in irl color mixing, if you want to go back to the original color when you tinted it with white, just add more of the original color, adding black to it will just make it muddy and grey lol

Black in CMYK (irl color mixing) is all the colors combined, so if you have a blue tint (blue + white) then add black to it, youre basically also adding cyan(blue) + magenta(red) + yellow to it so of course it wont be the same lol

(Making white by mixing other colors together is impossible in CMYK, white is basically - nothing/devoid of color, this is why white ink catridges arent a thing in printers)

In RGB (light), white is all of the colors combined, black is basically devoid of light. (see how its reversed? :D)

Real, I do make a big deal out of the most random ahhh shit ever, my anxiety goes over the roof for reasons normal human minds can’t comprehend (blame my autism)

✦ For that reason, I think something probably clicked between you and Rin, even if nothing was said. It's likely that it happened in a look, an attitude, in your achievements more than in words.

You learn from your mistakes, while Rin, on the other hand, experiences defeat by taking on only its worst aspects

This is one of the things I like about Shidou, Shidou genuinely applauds and gets hyped up from impressive plays - which I find surprisingly really mature (I’m more similar to Shidou in this aspect)

while Rin just fucking sulks when he gets trumped lmao

But I feel like Shidou is so opposite to Rin that I couldn't help but imagine how their relationship would look reflected in yours with each of them.

To be honest with you, I actually REALLY LIKE SHIDOU LOL

In my interpretation of him, I think he’s so cool honestly. In the entirety of blue lock, he genuinely has such a healthy mindset when it comes to living and enjoying life and for that I respect him a lot. Despite being brutal and violent, he’s honestly one of the most down to earth characters in bllk, bro literally just wants to live to the fullest and appreciate the beauty of life AND I THINK THATS HONESTLY SO PRINCIPLED and I truly admire people like that

Even though from my bio, I seem like an overly logical person, I would say I’m completely split 50/50 in both creativity and logic from my irl actions, I consider my thinking style and personality to be similar to a fucked up love child of Sae + Reo + Bachira

✦ Shidou is the opposite of strategy; he's a player of instinct, impulse, whim. He does nothing premeditated, and sometimes it seems like he's playing entirely at random.

To a certain extent, I can understand Shidou’s play style (or anyone’s really) if I know his end goal (to get a goal or explode or whatever the fuck) and outcome.

If I know what his intentions are and the outcome, I can basically REVERSE ENGINEER his thinking style and methodology using that information. Even though his plays may seem unpredictable and random, he does have a concrete goal in mind which makes every move have a reason for its existence, I love finding order in things that seem like pure chaos and if I was in blue lock I would definitely watch every game he played in and analyze his every action and move in detail, rewatching, rewinding, slowing down the frames, taking notes, imagining myself in his perspective and taking the context of other players into the situation, finding as many patterns as I can.

The thing with last minute improvisation is that it’s designed to solve a solution or achieve a specific outcome, improvisation does have a method to it since it has an end goal in mind, it’s almost the same as a normal plan to me, just less concrete and more chaotic. Just like how improvising a good joke always requires some kind of set up and then pay off using subversion of expectations.

Trained reflexes are a thing and Shidou’s soccer instincts are indeed trained since his soccer reflexes isn’t related directly to danger or a threat (all of our non-trained reflexes are designed to keep yourself safe from danger, everyone has these reflexes since birth - reflex signals (sensory signals) don’t reach your brain, only through your spinal cord and then back to your effector as a motor command).

You can develop trained reflexes and instincts that aren’t innate by continuously associating and initiating actions associated to certain stimuli (check out classical conditioning, Pavlovian response). His instincts do have an actual reason and method to it since he definitely trained himself to have those instincts to produce a certain outcome lol

Shidou fully enjoys his freestyle, makes a game of it, and his unpredictability deeply unsettles you. Your anxiety will break a sweat when he's on the field.

You are right, his unpredictability would absolutely drive me fucking crazy at the start since he’s so unconventional with playing soccer. In the beginning, I would definitely be uneasy about him since he’s so different from other players I analyzed so I don’t have anything to base him off of or predict his moves based on the norm. But I remember that he still has the same goal as any other player to get the ball inside the goal. He would definitely give me a big challenge when working beside him but eventually, I’ll get to that point and enjoy it.

learning to let go and accept the unexpected could be a step forward. Shidou, though wild and untamed, is the epitome of a free and impulsive play, completely unchained.

As time goes on and I learn to fully link up with Shidou’s play style, I would let go of my anxiety and turn it into PURE ADRENALINE LOL, since my under-stimulating nagging unease is now converted into overstimulating pressure. Like I said, pressure actually motivates me a lot, I enjoy the raw feeling of desperation, the risk of absolute destruction - it makes me berserk

I also think you two clash a lot on the field, but honestly, could it be any other way?

Us playing soccer together would clash a lot at the start but I think I would enjoy hanging out with him honestly since I agree with his philosophy a lot and he’s a fun dude. I think we would have a friendly rivalry, we can healthily challenge ourselves and learn from it.

✦ It's when he comes charging in with the ball that your real challenge begins: do you stop him? Steal the ball and pass it to Rin? What will you do, Robyn?

As a defender, I would actually be in the back of the field on my team’s side (yk, defending) or preferably marking a very strong player (I would honestly take a role similar to Raichi or Lorenzo)- not in the active field of play helping strikers score goals, I wouldn’t be directly involved in the playmaking or control the flow of the game like midfielders.

In every situation on field, I would take the best course of action that benefits the team to help achieve its goal based on the information I’ve gathered, which could be anything.
